This series of woven sculptures is a continuation of study of the structural and material behavior through weaving.
All woven on 8-harness floor loom, each woven study uses two sets of warps where one set of warp off-sets the other in the layout on the loom.

Study, A3

Study, A3 explores material behavioral and the purpose of color through weft density.

Shifting weft density causes gradual yet dramatic change in colors and disperses visual weight of the woven piece.

On the monofilament layer, the placement of tightly woven area is engineered to be at the intersection of the two layers to serve as a stabilizing point before the the monofilament layers drapes with the loosened weft density.

Study, A4 is a study on juxtaposing textures.

The top layer is tightly woven with a sponge-like yarn that has a tendency to pull together even more with hand-manipulation. When flat on the loom, this layer was lifted while manipulated to create a 3-dimensional undulating effect.

The bottom layer is woven with merino-wool to give a soft and matte texture that contrasts with the sheer and reflective surface of the upper layer.

Study, B7

Study, B6 creates a column-like structure through the merge of two layers at equal distance.

The top layer is a loosely woven mesh that has its own structure through the sturdiness of nylon on the weft and warp.

The bottom layer is loosely woven with merino-wool on both warp and the weft, then washed in hot water to be felted, which creates the pleating of the nylon mesh.

Study, B8 is a continuation of Study, B7.

Unlike Study, B7, the nylon mesh layer is woven both as the top and the bottom layer through lifting harness 1-4 when it is woven on top, and lifting harness 5-8 when woven on as bottom layer.

Through the washing and felting of merino wool, the nylon mesh pulls in together, which creates dramatic pleating.

Study, B9

Study, B9 is a poetic and silent iteration of Study, B7 and B8.

It focuses on simple yet pure material and structural juxtaposition through the limited use of color.
